Spectacular project: the H21 Leeds City Gate

The idea is simple, but hugely ambitious. To reduce Britain’s carbon emissions, they want to convert the country’s natural gas network to a hydrogen network. This would use the same pipes as gas and would power cookers and boilers in just the same way, only without the carbon emissions at point of use.

Research suggests that it is possible to significantly decarbonise parts of the existing gas network at minimal additional cost to consumers. This would significantly contribute to the UK’s 2050 and Paris Agreement commitments, remove the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning, increase energy storage, potentially remove air pollution from vehicles, and enable new product development and innovation for manufacturing and industrial businesses.
